July WIPocalypse post

I must have done more reading than stitching but looking at the pictures I do see some progress.  But considering how little there is of it, I think I probably spent more time on Zynga than I should have .

TW's Winter Carousel Horse July 3, 2012

Winter really should have been finished by now.  I can see the progress now that I look at the picture and compare it to last month but looking at the graph, I feel that I haven’t made any progress at all.

Fixed but not finished....

The loom saw some love, although it looks much the same as last month.  However, the error in the harness has been fixed and now it’s an issue of do I split the last diamond and do a half on each edge or do I pick one side and add a 4th diamond.  I’m  leaning toward the split pattern just because I tend to like patterns with an odd number of repeats.

Black Swan's Fire and Ice

What’s surprising is how much love and attention this little guy got.  I took him to the primary elections with me and worked on him in between chapters of Deadlocked.  He’s the next piece which should be getting time and attention but I think he’ll get alternated with the Pony.  It will be interesting to see how much stitching time I get with the Olympics coming up this month.

June WIPocalypse

I’m late taking the pictures for my June update post by almost a week.  Anyway I worked on two projects this month one is close to the beginning and one is close to the end.

I got warp threads onto the loom, but they aren’t in the correct harnesses.

The beginning of the warping for a pattern from my Finnish weaving book.

Interesting,  I entered this into the media library with a caption and that’s what I get when I post it.  I found a great way to keep the warp threads in order by using the light in room.  I need to remember what my teacher taught us about how to fix when you mis-harness the warp.

Progress in May for the June WIPocalypse

I’m down to just a hair over 5000 stitches left to finish TW’s Winter Carousel Horse.  I should be able to finish it this month if I can get some good stitching time.  My schedule says I should be working on one of the other Carousel horses and if finish this one this month, then I will start working on it.

Craft and Art

This song haunts me and I keep coming back to it and relating it to my own crafts. I keep thinking of the lines

“My boy builds coffins and I think it’s a shame
That when each ones been made, he can’t see it again
He crafts every one with love and with care
Then it’s thrown in the ground and it just isn’t fair”

I think about how much time and effort I put into the art of my craft and how many things I’ve given away and how many were unappreciated. My reaction was to stop making gifts and start making things just for me and that worked for a time. I’m ready now though I think to start making things again for others – It’s the spirit of the gift. If it’s not appreciated well, I know not to give to those people again. After all, each coffin could only be given once.

The WIPocalypse list is complete…for the moment

And this is the plan for the start of the year, I’ll be taking pictures tomorrow… (following the final Carousel Horse update).

So I will be keeping a focus piece which will be whatever is closest to being finished in my WIP list that means the beginning focus piece is  Winter Carousel Horse.

I wanted to start the year with a quick finish and a new start, so between the 1st and the 8th I’ll be working on these two projects with some time on Winter Carousel horse inbetween.  There is a good chance that I’ll finish IVY tomorrow.
1/9/12 – – IVY  – Needlepoint (original design) started in 1998, Segment from Main Street: Crafter’s Paradise in Just Cross Stitch
After I post on the 9th, I will be starting on the next project and the pattern will continue from that point. The date you see will be the date progress on that piece will be posted.

So, Stasha, I hear you say, what happens if you actually finish a project during the time you are working on it?  (and those who really know me are saying: “Stasha, you actually finish projects? Since when? accompanied by hysterical laughter)

Well it turns out that even during the Year of Carousel Horses I managed to finish 8 things, mostly small (okay, 4 small, 2 medium and 2 framing or finishing).   This year I’m looking to actually wrap up a few large projects which have aged nicely.  So if I do finish something, first there will be more time spent on the focus piece until it’s finished.  Then for every 2 projects completed there is a new start waiting – fully kitted and good to go but if the WIP list is still looking scary, there are other WIP’s ready to sacrifice themselves to fill a slot in the WIPocalypse calendar.  Items like the final applique block for the hand appliqued monster quilt – Mr. Big Mouth, the TW Fruit Bell Pest, Dragon Ride or the oldest WIP on my list Dimensions Embroidered Pegasus kit. So until the WIPocalypse starts tomorrow, there are still a few hours left on the Year of Carousel Horses and the 3rd section of netting on Winter is starting to call really loudly…

>April is here and it’s still snowing…

>

Spring does not come to Utah, we have Winter, Summer and Fall. It’s raining outside and supposed to turn to snow. And I still have Winter up on my stitching stand…
Years ago I started using a stop watch when stitching on large projects in order to record the time I’ve spent on them. I’ve almost put another 10 hours in on Winter since I started working on him this round. I did not get any work done on any of the other ponies, in fact they’ve been sitting right here….

Next to my chair. The thing is I’m getting tired of Winter both on my stand and outside my windows. I’m starting to look forward to Spring – both the horse and the season. I’m also getting tired of 40 ct fabric and I’m wondering if I should work on something a bit larger like 18 ct canvas? In other words, should I work on a Needlepoint WIP for a bit or should I finish warping this puppy up?
There’s also an urge to grab something completely new. I’m quelling that urge because I have enough things going and I should finish the ponies before starting to love something new.

>And the state of the ponies…

>

I didn’t get very far on Winter….

Fall didn’t even get put up on the stand this month…

Ditto for Spring…

So this is as far as I’ve gone on Summer….

So, you’re asking yourselves – what did she do this month…
I finished the Red Thread Sampler – It was Finish it February after all…
And I discovered a new hobby obsession…
This is my first woven piece… see for my birthday I signed up for a weaving class and they loaned me this…

A Nice little Four Shaft/Harness table loom and the whole reason I took the class was so I could use this…

The really nice Varpapuu Eight Harness loom I won at the fiber fair about 4 years ago and didn’t know how to use. Now I can use it, I just need to find Cones of nice fibers.
